About Exit 117A
Welcome!
What is Exit 117A?
Exit 117A is a hyper local blog about Aberdeen-Matawan and surrounding areas. Restaurant reviews, news, op-ed, entertainment, gossip, and more! Would you like to contribute? Click here for more details.
Who started Exit 117A?
Exit 117A started out as, essentially, the life and times of Marilyn Thomas, a former Philadelphia resident transplanted in NJ. In October 2007, she moved to just off Exit 117A of the Garden State Parkway. Hence the blog name – Exit 117A. Neat, huh? Previously, she blogged (’round 10 months) over at Red Bank Blues, chronicling her short-lived residence in Hip City. Now she writes about her experiences and observations in Matawan-Aberdeen.
No need for life history here. But, if you’re really dying to know, here’s the quick and dirty… Internet Marketing & Social Media professional by day, nightclub DJ by night.
In her spare time (not that there is much of that, mind you!) she loves blogging about the things she likes. She jumped on the blog bandwagon many years ago, using many different blog platforms. Once upon a time, she even had a celebrity blog… that is, until Blogger ate it up! :( That was a sad, sad day. Now she’s a WordPress devotee!
What are some other interesting things?
- She also writes a blog about her love of New Wave music.
- She started Bayshore Friends — a social network for and by residents of the Bayshore area. Check it out, sign up, and — contribute some ideas! Let’s get together & do things!
Hmm, that’s all for now.
Hi Marilyn,
I added you to my blogroll at http://TheresaGibson.com. As a Matawan resident, I am looking forward to your posts, especially restaurants.
Glad I found your blog.

by Tracy Gibson September 30, 2007 at 2:03 amHi Marilyn –
I’ve lived in Monmouth County all my life – my parents were first generation Italian, settled in Red Bank. I have *finally* begun a degree program at Brookdale – Humanities/English for creative non-fiction/publishing/blogging and am excited about the Red Bank – Matawan connection here.
Thank you for giving Matawan a web-presence with a voice! Yay!
Am lookling forward to getting better acquainted with your site.
I’ll be around!
*peace*

Thanks for commenting! I forgot to update this page. I added a little bit more. Take another look. ;)
In any case, I’m pleased to make your acquaintance. I hope you (and others) will find my posts informative and worthwhile. I’m happy to share my experiences and anything newsworthy with others.
It breaks up the monotony of my otherwise mundane life here in Jerz. Heh.
They actually have a program at Brookdale that focuses on blogging?! That’s pretty darned cool! You’ll have to let me know how you like it! Feel free to keep the comments comin’.
Cheers!
by Marilyn December 12, 2007 at 1:00 amHello, I just signed up for Exit 117A by email and was happy to see that you had included assistance for people with visual handicaps. As an advocate for people with disabilities (see my organization at http://www.equalizers.org) I wish this was offered on more sites. Thank you!
